by Walter Elliott

WALL TWP., N.J. -- Mike Crispo, of Bridgeton, N.J, and Kevin Ritchie, of Huntington Station, N.Y., helped close the Wall Township Speedway Calabreeze Pools/Van Wickle NAPA Sunday Series by winning their respective first Four Cylinder Supermodified race and championship here Sunday afternoon.

Crispo won his career first 4CSupermodified main victory when when Ritchie's leading car broke the rear end on lap 15. WSS Chief Starter Greg McGowan then waved the checkered flag on Crispo and his No. 87 homebuilt-600cc Honda since he and Ritchie were the only runners left on the lead lap. American Race Truck Series veteran Crispo is in his first full season aboard the half-scale, stock motorcycle-engined super modified stock cars. Ritchie still left the one-third-mile banked oval with the series crown. The No. 21 4CSupermods-Honda driver, who won the last two WSS races here, needed to start the scheduled 20-lap feature ahead of defending titlist Wes Gilbert, of Preston, MD. The 4CSupermodifieds had run 12 races on five Northeast speedways.

Derek Hopkinson, of Toms River, meanwhile won his fourth Calabreeze Pools Legends Cars feature of the season. The N&P/Kevin Yeatts Legends 600 Racing-Yamaha No. 17 pilot ousted Ryan Truex, Jr. on lap 15 of their 20-lap feature on WTS's fifth-mile inner oval. Truex regained second place after Zack Alspach failed to bring his car to post-race inspection. Trevor Alspach, Karl Heisler and WTs rookie Scott Hubler were elevated to the top five finishers aboard the five-eighths stock cars. Z. Alspach and Casey Robicheau split their 10-lap heats.

Rich Vassilatos, Jr. of Brick, repelled James Haddow to win his second straight 15-lap Van Wickle Auto Supply NAPA Bandoleros feature. The RVRacing/Five Star Race Car Bodies No. 57 600 Racing-Briggs & Stratton Vanguard driver edged front row mate Ken Van Wickle on a lap two restart. Greg Ostrander won the 10-lap heat.

Former WTS modified driver Nick Cottone, of Toms River, won his sixth career modified micro stock main over Andy Hiddeman.
