WALL TWP., N.J. -- Veteran
Steve Stull, of Hamilton and first-timer Zach Alspach, of Willingboro, captured
respective Saturday and Sunday Wall Township Speedway Legends Cars news.
Stull and Alspach shared WTS victory lane with Wall Sunday Series Bandolero
winners James Haddow, of Little Silver, and Ken Van Wickle, of Manasquan.
Stull started his Saturday
night by splitting the eight-lap heats with Mike Alcaro. WTS INEX Legends
Cars rookie Alcaro appeared to have the 25-lap feature's command while Stull
made his advance from fourth starting spot.
RMP MAD maven Robert Geibel,
Jr was challenging Alcaro for the lead when a WTS official said one of his
tires failed while entering turn three on lap three. Geibel and Alcaro collided,
triggering a melee that also involved Don Neuls, Matt Maring, Phil Fortuna,
Tom Catanzaro, Rudy Rinderer and Dan Roslin.
Geibel was out when the
yellow flag was lifted; Fortuna and Alcaro were to end early by lap 12. The
multicar accident left Stull and his No. 88 600 Racing-Yamaha on the point.
Stull used his new-found
point to first hold off Mike Fulton and, later, Roslin and Mark Tischler
for a .091 sec. victory margin. Fulton took fourth, ahead of Mike Stull and
13 other finishers. "I have to t6hank my wife, family, sponsors and crew,"
said S. Stull. "As far as what happened tom to the No. 8 and No. 15 (Alcaro
and Geibel), it looked like a racing accident."
Alspach meanwhile captured
both 20-lap features and 10 lap heat during the Calabreeze Pools Legends
part of the Wall Sunday Series. The No. 67 600 Racing-Yamaha No. 67 driver
bested Ryan Truex, Jr., in the first make-up main and headed off Derek Hopkinson
in the scheduled 20-lap edition. Zach and Trevor Alspach had been campaigning
at Legends tracks in Virginia and North carolina before trying WTS's
one-fifth-mile inner oval.
Haddow captured his second
WTS Bandolero feature, while Van Wickle kept his father's a\NAPA auto supply
money "in house" in the second. Bobby Walton, aboard the Truex No. 1, captured
the 10-lap heat in between. The double feature format was due to WTS Aug.
19 rainout.
Saturday's INEX Legends
are to be part of the 6:30 p.m. Sept. 1 program, featuring a 50-lap sportsman
main. The Calabreeze Pools Legends and Van Wickle NAPA Bandoleros remain
Wall Sunday Series headliners noon Sept. 2.
Grandstand admission is
free for Sunday racing. Contact wallspeedway.com or (732) 681-6400 for more
