WALL TWP., N.J. -- Mike
Fulton, of Bridgewater, added 55 vital points to his Wall Township Speedway
class championship lead by winning the INEX Legends Cars feature on USG
Sheetrock/ Matheny School Night here Saturday.
Fulton, who started 10th
among the 24 600 Racing-Yamaha Legends field, ousted polesitter Robert Geibel
on lap 21. The duo were lapping "Racing Nurse" Beth MacFarlane along WTS's
banked paved one-third-mile oval backstretch.
Fulton and his Ideal Auto
Body/Auto Creations No. 90 won their third feature victory of the season
over Geibel by .601 sec. after 25 laps. Bob Baltera, Dan Roslin, D.J. Macri
and Ron Poley rounded out the top six of 17 finishers.
"I was following Bobby
when he got a little loose and I went for the opening," said Fulton. "With
a little luck, we can get a fourth feature and the track championship next
week." Fulton was referring to Sept. 22 WTS Legends Double-Points Season
Finale set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The fourth year WTS driver holds 865 points.
The class champion has
the option of representing WTS at 600 Racing's 16th Annual RACEceiver Asphalt
Nationals Oct. 12-13 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. 600 Racing has been building
the spec-scaled Legends, Bandoleros and Thunder Roadsters since the early
1990s.
Three-time feature winner
Roslin, of Little Egg Harbor Twp., has 825 points. The Calabreeze Pools driver
nearly missed the feature after crashing his No. 03 in his eight-lap heat.
Father Bruce Roslin lent him his own No. 04 and borrowed the No. 86 from
Ewing-based RTS Performance Legends dealer John Hugate.
Poley, also of Little
Egg Harbor, made the championship contention cut with 802 points. Sept. 22's
double points, with 110 points going to the feature winner, almost eliminates
the 763 markers of Steve Stull, of Hamilton. Defending class champ brother
Mike Stull, who holds 661 points after a lap three crash put him in 24th
- and last - place, is ranked seventh in the title standings.
Two separate accidents
on turn four and the frontstretch helped eliminate M. Stull and five other
drivers on lap three. A lead- contending driver had spun, wiping out Stull;
Gist Racing's Tom Catanzaro, Francis Cottrell and Luke Marzano; the renumbered
No. 10 of Value Towing Factory Stock vet Mark Tischler and Garden State Quarter
Midget Racing Club alumni-turned Rousch Racing NASCAR Nextel Cup Jamie McMurray
No. 26 Ford Fusion team member Ryan Flores.
Geibel, Don Neuls and
Mike Alcaro split the three eight-lap heats. INEX Legends Drivers are to
also vie for WTS Turkey Derby XXXIV qualifying honors in the Oct. 6 regular
season finale. The Fall classic is set for Nov. 23-24.
Younger Legends and Bandolero
drivers are to run Wall Calabreeze Pools/Van Wickle Auto Supply NAPA Sunday
Series double features noon Sept. 30. The Four-Cylinder Supermodifieds hold
joint billing with the Calabreeze Legends and Van Wickle Bandoleros on WTS's
fifth-mile inner oval.
