WALL TWP., N.J. -- Mark
Tischler's season-long quest for a first Wall Township Speedway INEX Legends
Cars feature victory ended by leading all 25 laps here Saturday night.
Handicappers placed Tischler's No. 0 600 Racing-Yamaha alongside poleman
Bob Baltera whom he got the drop on a the start. The Value Towing Factory
Stock graduate held off Baltera, Robert Geibel, Jr., and eventual runner-up
Dan Roslin by 1.735 sec. after 25 laps. "It was a matter of money and
opportunity," said the Martinsville resident. "I was renting the green No.
0 from Mike Alcaro and Tom Catanzaro when Stull Racing had the old No. 89
for sale. I bought the 89 three weeks ago."
Tischler, in his first
racing campaign last year, had won two VTFS features. Tischler kept his pace
despite two red flag halts on lap 12. The first red flag was called after
Rob Vivona sheared off his right front corner against the turn four guardrail.
Rudy Rinderer, who spun out, also failed to continue.
The double-file restart
lasted three-quarters of a lap when Bruce Roslin, defending class champ Mike
Stull, Ron Poley and Matt Maring had two separate collisions and blocked
the banked, paved one- third-mile oval. The two precautionary reds halted
the race for an overall 17 minutes; no one was injured and the remaining
15 drivers finished on the lead lap.
D. Roslin and Dennis "D.J."
Macri got past RMP MAD runner Geibel on lap 20 but were unable to catch Tischler.
Macri and sixth place finisher Steve Stull split the two eight-lap heats.
Francis Cottrell rounded out the top five.
Catanzaro, who used to
drive the Stull No. 89, debuted the Gist Racing No. 42 to 14th place as teammate
to Cottrell's No. 44 and Luke Marzano's No. 40. Catanzaro's move can be
considered "in- house" since Stull Racing's Nos. 19 and 87 - 89 are one arm
of a technical combine with Gist.
Calabreeze Pools patriarch
Bruce Roslin was meanwhile pleased to see son Dan and Macri complete the
podium despite his own crashing out on lap six. Roslin decided to leave the
No. 82 of Eric Gerchak home, however - and abandoned splitting the schedule
with Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas Va. "Three of the last four races
we went down there for were rained out," said Roslin. "There are only 12
or 13 Legends Races held at ODS. Then we got involved with the points chase
here." ODS is a three-eighths-mile paved oval that holds NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series races Saturday nights.
