Neuls gets 1st Saturday Legends Win; Sunday Series awash.
by Walter Elliott

WALL TWP., N.J. -- Modified veteran driver Don Neuls, of Hamilton, finally scored his first INEX Legends Cars feature on John Blewett III Tribute/Allstate Night at Wall Township Speedway. Sunday afternoon rain forced the Wall Calabreeze Pools/Van Wickle NAPA Sunday Series into an Aug. 26 double feature program.

Neuls who started 10th among a 23 car field, ousted initial pacer Bob Baltera on lap 17. The Stull Racing No. 19 600 Racing-Yamaha pilot then dodged a spinning Malcom Campbell, Jr. on lap 20. and pulled to a .452 sec. victory margin on Mike Stull after 25 laps.

Brothers Mike and Steve Stull, who have won WTS Saturday Legends features this season, greeted their newest teammate in victory lane. Neuls also acknowledged the tribute to Howell's Blewett, the defending NASCAR Whelen All-American Series track champion who died in an accident during a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway Aug. 16. "I first have to say that we sympathize with the Blewetts on their loss," said Neuls. "We knew this car had what it takes to win, it was a matter of time." "We hired Don because of his modified experience," said M. Stull. "He's experienced, patient and knows how not to embarrass himself."

Baltera faded behind Dan Roslin and Mike Fulton to fifth. Campbell, who had been running in the top four before spinning and taking his right front fender, salvaged a 17th place finish. Roger Coss and Phil Fortuna, who collided on lap 11, were the only non-finishers. M. Stull and Fulton split the eight-lap heats.

Eddie McCarthy, of Brick, and Adam Jordin, of Hamilton, had just won their 10-lap Calabreeze Pools Sunday Series Legends heats when rain began to fall on the fifth-mile inner oval. The Calabreeze Pools legends, Van Wickle NAPA Bandoleros and various kart or kart-based classes are to have double features 11 a.m. Aug. 27.
