WALL
STADIUM SEASON OPENING “THUNDER AT THE SHORE”
MAIN
EVENTS GO GREEN AT 6:30 P.M. THIS SATURDAY (APRIL 3)
WALL
TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ The event that many Wall Stadium stock car fans have
waited months for, the season opener for 2010, is set to take the
green flag this Saturday evening, April 3. Once practice and
qualifying for all divisions have been completed the feature races for
all five divisions are set to take the green flag at 6:30 p.m. The
Supreme Manufacturing Company Modifieds will lead the way in a 40-lap
main event, while the Sportsman cars, Street Stocks and the INEX
Legend Cars will all battle in 25-lappers. The Factory Stocks will
round out the program in a 20-lap feature. All five main events will
offer points towards the season-long driving titles.
The
current schedule for the April 3 season opener will see the competitor
pit area open at 1:00 p.m., with a paid testing session for
competitors then running from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. The regular
afternoon practice session will then begin at 3:30 p.m., while
spectator seating will open for the first time this season at 4:00
p.m. Qualifying will start at 5:15 p.m. before main events roll out
onto the track at 6:30 p.m. sharp.
Although
defending Supreme Manufacturing Company Modified champion Chas Okerson,
who is also a multi-time Pro Stock champion at the stadium, is
currently at the top of his game, he will have plenty of competition
in his quest for opening night glory and a second straight crown.
Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Tim Arre of Toms River, Freehold’s
Steven Reed, Matawan’s Anthony Sesely and Dave Cranmer of Shrewsbury
are just a few of the area’s standout Modified drivers expected to
go for the win and the season-long driving title. Local Modified
favorite Tommy Farrell of Tinton Falls is one of the top speedsters
planning to return to the oval for the new campaign.
The
speedway’s Sportsman division is also creating a lot of interest for
the new season. While 2009 champion Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck will
lead the field, standouts Robert Sutphin of Brick, Charlie Kremer III
of Toms River, Kevin Davison of Howell and 2009 “Rookie of the
Year” Krause of East Brunswick will be among those offering plenty
of competition. Even more excitement for this division is growing
since recent practice sessions have hosted many new top quality cars.
In fact, many enthusiasts are expecting fields approaching 30 cars to
be the norm for most events in 2009.
Wall
Stadium is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile
north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B. The
speedway office is open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday
through Friday and all day Saturday during events. The speedway
hotline number is 732-681-6400, while more information is also
