MODIFIEDS STOCK CARS IN SPOT LIGHT AT WALL
STADIUM -
MAIN EVENTS GO GREEN AT 6:30 P.M.
THIS SATURDAY (MAY 22)
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J.
~ Modified stock cars will again be in the
spotlight this Saturday night (May 22) as Wall
Stadium's 2010 racing season swings into the
summer season. With Saturday night events
scheduled for nearly every weekend through Labor
Day, fields of cars are expected to grow as the
season hits full throttle. This Saturday night
the Modifieds will battle in a 40-lap main
event, while the Factory Stocks will also
compete in a 40-lapper. Sportsman cars, Street
Stocks and the Legend Cars will race in 25-lap
feature events. Spectator seating will open at
4:00 p.m., with qualifying set for 5:30 p.m. and
main event racing scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Although
defending Supreme Manufacturing Modified
champion Chas Okerson of Freehold, who is also a
multi-time Pro Stock champion at the stadium, is
currently at the top of his game, he will have
plenty of competition in his quest for Modified
40-lap glory and a second straight crown.
Neptune's Tommy Farrell, Tim Arre of Toms River,
Freehold's Steven Reed, Matawan's Anthony Sesely
and Adam LaCicero of Lavallette are just a few
of the area's standout Modified drivers expected
to go for the win and the season-long driving
title. Chris Hamilton, Ron Frees, John
McCormack, Roger Coss, David Reinhardt and Harry
Schaffer are just a few more drivers expected to
see action. Saturday night's 40-lap feature race
will also serve as the final tune up before the
Modifieds race in "Twin 35" lap feature races
here one week later on May 29.
Among the drivers to watch
in the companion 40-lap championship race for
the Flanagan Retail Development backed Factory
Stock division will be current point leader Paul
Hartwig, Jr. of Brick, former champion Rob Longo
of Wall and second generation driver Joey
Helberg of Union. Neptune's Tim O'Shea and
Beachwood residents Ricky Siddons and Todd Pilla
are also top point men looking for glory in the
big race.
The
speedway's Sportsman division is also creating a
lot of interest for the new season. While 2009
champion Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck will lead the
field in Saturday's 25-lapper, standouts Robert
Sutphin of Brick, Charlie Kremer III of Toms
River, Kevin Davison of Howell and 2009 "Rookie
of the Year" Andrew Krause of East Brunswick
will be among those offering plenty of
competition.
In the INEX Legend Cars
ranks, Willingboro's Trevor Alspach will attempt
to become the first ever Legend Cars driver to
win four straight 25-lappers at the speedway,
while point leader Ray Minieri of Bay Shore,
N.Y. attempts to stretch his advantage in the
Street Stock 25-lapper.
The current
schedule for the May 22 card will see the
competitor pit area open at 1:00 p.m., with a
paid testing session for competitors then
running from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. The regular
afternoon practice session will then begin at
3:30 p.m., while spectator seating will open for
the first time this season at 4:00 p.m.
Qualifying will start at 5:15 p.m. before main
events roll out onto the track at 6:30 p.m.
sharp.
