TQ MIDGET RACECARS
READY TO RUMBLE AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY
NIGHT
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J.
~ The open cockpit racecars of the American
Three Quarter Midget Racing Association are
ready to invade Wall Stadium for the first time
this season this Saturday night (June 26). The
TQ Midgets are set to headline in the second
annual "Tony Romit Memorial" and will be joined
in action by the track's Modified, Sportsman,
Street Stock, Legend Cars and Factory Stock
racers. Spectator seating is set to open at 4:00
p.m., with qualifying to begin at 5:45 p.m. and
main event action set for 6:45 p.m.
The "Tony Romit Memorial"
is held annually to commemorate the memory of
one of the all time great champions and showmen
of the American Three Quarter Midget Racing
Association. To help celebrate the occasion, the
John Wehrle No. 02 that Romit raced to many of
his wins over the years is expected to be on
display.
Defending Romit Memorial winner Frank Fischer
will be behind the wheel of the No. 26 Spitfire
car to defend his title with Alan Mollot serving
as crew chief. Mollot competed against the
formidable Wehrle/Romit No. 02 combination back
in the 1970s with Mollot's own No. 51 roadster.
The race will pay $800 to the race winner
with additional money being paid to positions
back through the starting field. The race is
largely made possible by the support of the
Romit Family and Darren and Donnie Alesio and
their mother Carol. The family has
commissioned a Romit Memorial T-Shirt for the
event and will have limited number available for
racers and fans. A special commemorative
check similar to what was presented last year
will be given to the race winner in addition to
winning plaques.
In addition to the TQ
Midgets contest, the Supreme Manufacturing
Modifieds will battle in a 40-lapper, while the
Sportsman, Street Stock and Legend Cars
divisions will compete in 25-lap main events and
the Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks
will race in a 20-lapper.
Pit gates will
open at 12:30 p.m. on June 26, with a paid
practice session set from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30
p.m. The regular practice session will be up
next, while grandstand seating will open at 4:00
p.m. Qualifying is set for 5:45 p.m. and main
event action is set for 6:45 p.m.
On Sunday, the fifth mile
paved "inner oval" continues the 2010 "Sunday
Series" featuring Go Karts, wingless Midgets,
Legend Cars and Micro Stocks starting at noon.
