WALL
STADIUM MODIFIEDS READY FOR GARDEN STATE CLASSIC
THIS SATURDAY (JULY 17)
WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Wall Stadium promoter Jim
Morton says that he is looking forward to
hosting an impressive field of Supreme
Manufacturing Modified stock cars when his third
mile paved oval hosts the annual 150 lap "Garden
State Classic" for the Modifieds on Saturday
night, July 17. Plans call for grandstand
seating to open at 4:00 p.m. that afternoon,
with qualifying beginning at 6:30 p.m. and
feature racing set to start at 7:30 p.m.
"The 2010 "Garden State Classic" is going to
be a great show," Morton said. "I am really
looking forward to it. We are going to have a
great field of quality cars. I have been talking
to the drivers personally and every driver that
has confirmed thus far has spoken directly to
me."
"We have a great list of confirmed
drivers right now and there are many more that I
have to speak to."
Freehold's Steven Reed
will be one of the favorites to win the 150-lap
championship race because he was able to claim
the checker flag in last year's edition. Reed's
brother in law, Chas Okerson of Freehold, is
also a favorite as he has been fast on the track
this far this season and is also the division's
defending driving champion and current point
leader. Recent feature winners Roger Coss of
Lafayette and Shaun Carrig of Little Falls will
also be drivers to watch, as will other Wall
regulars Billy Cole of Farmingdale, Harry
Schaefer of Carteret and David Reinhardt of
Neptune City.
Neptune's Tommy Farrell and
Allentown's Pete Brittain, both of whom won a
Touring Modified main event here earlier this
year, are also planning to be fast in this
event, as is Toms River's Tim Arre, Howell's Ken
Woolley, Jr., North Haledon's Chris Hamilton and
Robert Geibel of Brick.
Morton says that
he will have more confirmed entries soon.
In addition to the Modifieds, the Street
Stocks will compete in a 25-lap main event,
while the Flanagan Retail Development Factory
Stocks will race in a 20-lapper. The 4C Super
Modifieds will also see action while the
restored racecars of the Garden State Vintage
Stock Car Club will be on display. The Sportsman
and Legend Cars divisions will have the night
off.
Pit gates will open at 12:30 p.m. on
July 17, with a paid practice session set from
1:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. The regular practice
session will be up next, while grandstand
seating will open at 4:00 p.m. Qualifying is set
for 6:30 p.m. and main event action is set for
7:30 p.m.
On Sunday (July 18), the
fifth mile paved "inner oval" continues the 2010
"Sunday Series" featuring Go Karts, wingless
Midgets, Legend Cars, Bandoleros and Micro
Stocks starting at noon. Grandstand admission is
free on Sunday and more information is available
by calling 732-681-6400 or visiting
