WALL TWP., N.J. -- Dave
Cranmer, of North Hanover, N.J., won his first career NASCAR Whelen All-American
Series modified main before Ron Frees captured the Scott Motor Coach $10K
Bonanza Street Stock Feature at Wall Township Speedway Saturday night. Cranmer
battled Tom Farrell III all night, splitting the 10-lap heats with him and
holding him off the entire 40-lap feature.
The Cranmer Engineering
No. 59 Troyer-Chevrolet driver thanked his crew chief, Al Voorhees, Jr.,
for bringing him back into the sport after taking time off to start his
consulting business and to raise two children. Voorhees suffered the June
6 passing of his father, Al, Sr.
2003 class champion Frees
won his first 50-lap street stock race, coming from ninth starting spot to
oust defending titlist Bill Vanderveen on a lap seven restart of the Scott
Motor Coach $10K Bonanza. The No. 43 DependabiliTEES Chevy Monte Carlo driver
earned the $1,500 winners prize courtesy of Scott Motor Coach sales, of Lakewood.
Ray Minieri demoted Vanderveen to third on lap 40. Rich Mongeau topped the
29 entrants in time trials with a 14.585 sec., 82.184 mph effort on the banked,
paved one-third mile oval. Minieri and Harry Schaefer split the eight-lap
heats that set the 24-car field.
Tim Buckwalter, of
Douglassville, Pa., won his first WTS feature by leading all 20 laps of the
Keenan Motors American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association headliner.
The Keystone micro sprint star put a 2.755 sec. victory margin on heat winner
Ryan Tidman while averaging 100.918 mph.
Wall and ATQMRA rookie
Ron Dennis, of Bayside, Queens, N.Y., is being treated for a broken right
foot and a broken shoulder at a nearby hospital. Dennis suffered the injuries
in Tidman's heat. Trackside medical attention was also given to factory stock
driver Bill Connolly after a lap two collision with Andy Shelmet.
Joe Costandi, of Flemington,
came from 13th place to topple Mike Bilello midway through the Value Towing
Factory Stock Feature. Dan Roslin, of Little Egg Harbor Twp., scored his
second career INEX Legends Cars feature after Kevin Eyres, of Colts Neck,
won his fourth sportsman main of the season.
The WTS-based Garden State
Vintage Stock Car Club ran 10 of their cars during the intermission.
The USAC Ford Focus Midget
Northeast Tour makes its first WTS stop of the season 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
The RMP Modified Affordable Division rejoins the NASCAR WAAS Modified, INEX
Legends, Value Towing Factory Stock, Street Stock and Sportsman roster.
The Wall Sunday Series
- including the Calabreeze Pools Legends, Van Wickle Auto Supply Bandoleros
and other scaled or kart-based racers - return noon July 15. Sunday grandstand
