WALL, TWP., N.J. -- Jimmy
"Showtime" Blewett, of Howell, N.J., and Jesse State, of Hyde Park, N.Y.,
captured Wall Township Speedway's headlining home and visiting features Saturday
night. Kevin Eyres, of Colts Neck, became a rare sportsman and RMP Modified
Affordable Division same night feature winner. John McCormack, of Farmingdale,
won the street stock feature; Vern McLaughlin III, of Whitehouse Station,
the Value Towing Factory Stock feature and Mike Stull, of Hamilton, in INEX
Legends Cars.
Blewett returned from
a month's absence to win his 26th career Wall NASCAR Whelen All-American
Series modified main. The Statusgreen No. 66 Troyer-Chevrolet driver came
from 11th grid spot to inherit the lead from Michael Bohn on lap 17. He held
off Steve Reed and seven other finishers by .161 sec. the remaining 23 laps.
Jimmy and 2006 WTS champion John Blewett III had been on the NASCAR Whelen
Modified Tour after questioning a restart call. Blewett, when asked if he
was planning to run in Saturday's 50th Annual Garden State Classic here,
said he did not know.
State came from third
to first within the USAC Northeast Ford Focus Series Midget main's opening
laps and went on to win his career first feature on Wall's banked, paved
one-third-mile oval. The first-year Bay Auto Sales Hawk-Ford Focus No. 18
pilot held off Stockton, N.J.'s Sean Carman, polesitter Ryan Osborne, of
Milford and all the other 10 starters by 3.670 sec. in a 25-lap all-green-flag
run. Osborne and Mike Mohelski, of Frederick, Md., split their eight lap
heats. USAC's regional division features full-scale midgets powered by common
four-cylinder Ford Focus engines. The tour is to return Aug. 18.
Eyres' double started
by winning the 25-lap sportsman main over class king Chas Okerson and ousting
second-generation driver Steve Voorhees in the RMP MAD run. The Avis-backed
driver then donated his overall $600 winnings to the Matheny Hospital and
Center, of Peapack. Okerson pulled the last double last month by winning
his sportsman and career first WAAS modified mains.
McLaughlin dodged a lap
14 collision between leader Gary Pein and last week's victor Joe Constandi
to take his latest 25-lap Value Towing Factory Stock feature.
Stull used his experience
to repel newcomer Mike Alcaro in the INEX Legends Cars race. McCormack outran
Rich Mongeau in the street stock feature.
The 100-lap Garden State
Classic tops a Saturday July 21st card of Street Stocks and Value Towing
Factory Stocks plus INEX Legends. All six regular divisions are to return
for USG Night July 28.
The Wall Sunday Series
for Calabreeze Pools Legends, Van Wickle NAPA Bandoleros, Four-Cylinder
Supermodifieds and other kart and kart based racers resume noon July 29.
