WEICHERT WINS HIS FIRST ON WALL FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT
by Walter Elliott

Scott Motor Coach Sales, Inc. Lakewood, N.J.

WALL TWP., N.J. -- Bill Weichert, of Chatham Borough, and Tom Farrell III, of Shrewsbury, won their first respective career NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Modified and RMP Modified Affordable Division features on Wall Township Speedway's Scott Motor Coach Sales Fan Appreciation Night Saturday. Dan Collamer, of Waretown, edged Nick Shaw by .0016 sec. to win his third Value Towing Factory Stock feature. Ron Frees, of Brick, and Dan Roslin, of Little Egg Harbor Twp., also won their respective third WTS street stock and INEX Legends cars features. Kevin Eyres, of Colts Neck, captured his seventh Sportsman main.

Weichert held off front row mate Jason Treat all 40 laps of their Whelen All-American Series Modified main and won by 1.984 sec. The Boardwick Racing Engines No. 11 Troyer-Chevrolet driver earned the feature's pole position after splitting the two 10-lap heats with Justin Gumley. Weichert had been racing WTS trucks the last three years before that division was discontinued.

WAAS regular Farrell won his career first RMP Modified Affordable Division main start by coming from last place through the 20 car field and ousting Scott Riggleman on lap 23. The Woody's Roadside Tavern team asked Farrell to race the No. 0 Troyer RMP-Chevy after regular driver Rich Hallgring suffered a hand injury in one of the eight-lap heats. Rob Williams and Robert Geibel won their qualifiers.

Collamer inherited the Value Towing Factory Stock lead after Bill Connolly and Joe Constandi collided on lap 21. The Cannon Signs No. 42 1982 Oldsmobile Cutlass driver then held off Nick Shaw by a fender-length on the 20th and last lap. Connolly and Doug Bates, Jr. split the heats.

Frees gave his newlywed Tara a one-day late wedding gift by winning the 25-lap Street Stock feature. The DependabiliTEES Chevy Monte Carlo/Camaro driver split the heats with Dave Bragg and repelled former class champion Rich Mongeau by .398 sec. the last 12 laps.

Eyres ousted poleman Dave Green on lap 21 and held him, Sportsman class king Chas Okerson and Charlie Kremer III by 1.180 sec. The AVIS/Top Cuts Lawn Care No. 21 Rondeau-Chevy master started fifth.

Roslin came from 15th starting spot to outlast Malcolm Campbell, Jr. and outrun Francis Cottrell by lap 21 of the Legends Cars main. The Calabreeze Pools No. 03 600 Racing-Yamaha driver went on to edge Cottrell by .364 sec. Mike Alcaro, Robert Geibel and Mike Stull won their heats.

Racing activity turns to the Wall Calabreeze Pools/Van Wickle NAPA Sunday Series on the one-fifth-mile paved inner oval noon today. Racing stars of the future are to display their abilities in Legends, Bandoleros and other scaled or kart-based racing vehicles.

All six Wall Township Speedway divisions, the Whelen All-American Series Modifieds, Street Stocks, RMP Modified Affordable Division, Sportsman, INEX Legend Cars, and Value Towing Factory Stocks plus the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club are to return Saturday, September 22nd for USG Sheetrock Night. Grandstand gates open at 4pm with qualifying races starting at 6:30pm.
